The Tech Cafe has Reopened

The Tech Cafe has reopened for the Fall 2014 semester and we are dishing out a huge heaping of technical support! Join Tom and Jessi on Wednesdays from 1:00pm to 2:00pm in Studio 108 to receive some extra hands on experience with the department's cameras, mics, or lighting equipment. If post production is more your thing, join them on Thursdays from 12:15pm to 1:15pm in the Media Lab (119) where all your software questions will be answered. Feel free to email Tom or Jessi with any questions or concerns prior to the start of the tech cafe so equipment can be ready for you. Otherwise just swing on by and they will be happy to help! *sorry coffee is not included*

Join the Communication's Department Facebook group!

In an effort to share job-postings and relevant resources to our department and the communications field at large, we have just launched a Facebook group for students and alum.

Please visit  https://www.facebook.com/groups/aucommdept/ and request to join. Once your request has been processed, you are welcome to post links, film festival leads, news, critical commentary and anything else you think our community may enjoy.

Job-postings will be posted on a rolling basis but certainly there will be at least one new job listing posted each week. Follow the group to keep up with these listings and much more.

You can also follow the department on Twitter @AUCommDept

And on Flickr: aucommdept

If you have any questions, please email jdrew@adelphi.edu, otherwise hope to see many new members and faces online!

A Little Piece of History

This is your chance to take home a piece of Adelphi University Communications Department history!

The Comm Department is reorganizing several spaces and is reducing the inventory of film flatbeds. If you have room for and would like to own your very own Steenbeck let us know. You could also take home an edit table with rewinds; editing accessories such as a splicer, synchronizers and 16mm cans.

Not only do we have film equipment up for grabs, we also have a few tripods available! We have a Wooden Junior Tripod. 2 Universal tripods with fluid heads. And last but not least, NCE tripod legs.

Please email commdept@adelphi.edu if you are interested or for more information. Thanks for looking!

2014 Senior Dinner

A fun-filled evening was had by all at the Communications Department 2014 Senior Dinner and Lambda Pi Eta induction ceremony.

The night was kicked off by our very own Chair of the Department, Paul Thaler, who serenaded the room with a few piano tunes and songs. After a brief welcome and introduction of the faculty and staff by Dr. Thaler, a special guest musician was welcomed on stage.

Victoria Levy performed a couple of her well-known songs for the crowd. Everyone had a blast listening to her perform: Gimme and Car, just to name a few. During the last song, Hanky Panky, a cover of Tommy James and the Shondells',  Professor Joe Kluge hopped on stage to provide some percussion on the Triangle.

After a delicious meal it was time to honor the graduating seniors and new inductees in to the Communications National Honor Society; Lamba Pi Eta.
